Castle Beach, Tenby – Sunday Times Beach of the Year 2019.

Castle Beach is the smallest of Tenby’s three sandy beaches, measuring about 150 metres wide and becoming narrower at high tide. When the tide is out, it is split in two by St. Catherine’s Island, which features an old fort. At very low tide, the sand connects with South Beach, forming an uninterrupted 2-mile stretch of golden beach.

At the top of Castle Beach, there is a wide, sloping band of soft dry sand. Lower down, the sand is firm, sloping on the left and fairly level on the right. A stone gateway leads to a steep slope that is reasonably smooth, with patched tarmac and concrete, providing fairly good access for disabled people.

Key Info:
– Blue Flag beach
– Dog restrictions: Apply to the whole beach west of St. Catherine’s Island from May to the end of September

Lifeguard service:
– 10:00 – 18:00, 15 June to 1 September 2019

Castle Beach is ideal for a relaxing day by the sea, with its beautiful views and historical charm. Whether you’re exploring the old fort on St. Catherine’s Island or enjoying the expansive sands at low tide, it’s a perfect spot for beach lovers of all ages.
