Visit Dobby At Hollywood’s Favourite Welsh Beach.
This sand and rocky beach is a surfer’s paradise, always buzzing with those on the hunt for the perfect wave. Facing south-west, it boasts the best waves in the county, but beware – this spot is only for experienced surfers with strong swimming skills due to its strong rip currents. It’s also the best place to watch some impressive surfing action.
The beach is wide, sandy, and backed by an extensive dune system. The dunes are fragile, so no camping or barbecues are allowed. At the southern end, there’s a rocky reef, and at the other, some quiet bays.
Here’s some cool trivia and essential info:
– Frainslake Sands: Located to the south, but it’s inside the Castlemartin ranges, so it’s out of bounds.
– Thatched Shack: This rebuilt shelter was once used for drying a type of seaweed used to make Lavabread, a Welsh speciality great for adding flavour to recipes.
Movie Magic:
Freshwater West has been features in several films…
– Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood
– Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Dobby’s Shell Cottage was built here)
– Their Finest (used as a double for Dunkirk, starring Gemma Arterton and Sam Claflin)
