Newgale is famous for its two mile stretch of golden sand.
Newgale is a fantastic west-facing beach, catching all the lovely Atlantic winds making it the perfect spot for surfers, windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers, anglers, and of course, beach lovers!
The pebble bank here was created by rising sea levels at the end of the Ice Age. If you’re lucky, you can spot the preserved stumps of a drowned forest at the northern end of the beach during low tide. Just a heads-up, at high tide, the beach can be completely submerged.
History buffs will love the southern end of the beach, where you can see the ruins of a 15th-century colliery marked by a tall chimney. For easy access, there’s a walkway leading to a platform on top of the pebble bank at three points along the beach, but it doesn’t extend down to the sand on the seaward side.
